Varanasi is a popular pilgrimage city for Hindus. It was called Benares
by the British. It is located on the Ganges in eastern India. Unfortunately there
was a bombing incident that killed several people a week before we arrived.

Ghats are stone steps that go down to the river.
I don't remember what these are called. They are flowers and a candle in a leaf shaped like a boat. At dusk you light the candle, make a wish, and set the whole thing adrift on the river.
People come here in the early morning to bathe.
This little boy rowed us arond the river for about an hour and the man was our guide.
